Enter my world

I am Brianna Kennice Johnson. A member of Wesleyan’s Class of 2024 and a native to Canarsie, Brooklyn, New York. Creativity, curiosity and community fuel me and my experiences at Wesleyan and beyond. As a senior, every experience thus far has molded me and taught me both beautiful and painful lessons about myself and my role in the world!

On campus, I am known as the girl who does it all and leaves you wondering, “How does she do so well at everything she does?” Truth is, I don’t!

I have been almost overly involved in extracurricular activities, but extremely devoted to everything I do. I am a musical artist on campus. Under the pseudonym, Kennice, I have performed as a female rapper with Mic Check, the first student organization exclusively for Hip Hop and R&B artists on campus and sang as an alto and tenor for Black Raspberry, Wes’ first all-black music collective. Since freshman year, I have been a member of the FXT Dance Collective, a collective of Wesleyan’s three student-led Hip Hop dance teams (Fusion, X-Tacy and Troupe). I have been a member and choreographer of Fusion Dance Collective for 4 years and a director of X-Tacy The Collective for 2 years. I currently serve on the Women of Color Collective Board as the co-president. Furthermore, I’ve also been a part of our student dining workers’ union’s bargaining committee on campus, and we just won our first contract! This is in addition to being a Sociology and African American Studies double major and an independent student who works 17 hours a week!

While it hasn’t been easy or that sustainable, overall, my time at on campus has been one for the books! It has been defined by a diverse range of academic and non-academic accomplishments and pursuits that have kept me engaged and fulfilled, but also some real hardships and challenges that forced me to step back and entirely refocus my energy and mindset. I am grateful for the opportunity to be at Wesleyan and look forward to my future post-grad, where the lessons I have learned here will transcend this campus.

I welcome you into my universe and hope you enjoy learning more about me!
